Life On Mars is a major statement work exploring the tension between escapism and reality in a world standing on the brink of interplanetary travel.
Seven years in development, this painting is both a personal and cultural excavation inspired by the existential questioning behind “Life on Mars?” by David Bowie, and the undeniable reality that humanity is now closer than ever to setting foot on Mars.
The figures are alien, mechanical, symbolic yet unmistakably human. Fragmented bodies, watchful eyes, geometric forms and key motifs suggest surveillance, consciousness, technology, and control. They stand against a weathered, textured backdrop that feels scraped by time, with faded distant roaming animals from past and present a surface that could be Earth… or Mars.
This work asks:
Are we reaching for Mars out of ambition or avoidance?
